About Central Huron Ambulance Service

Central Huron Ambulance Service is the only Advanced Life Support agency in Huron County. We are a non-profit organization that is owned by the following: City of Bad Axe, Townships of Colfax, Dwight, Hume, Lincoln, Meade, Pte. Aux Barques, Sheridan, Sigel, Verona and Port Austin, and the Villages of Kinde and Port Austin. (Beginning April 1st, 2020 Central Huron Ambulance Service expanded to include Paris Township and Bingham Township, which includes the Village of Ubly. Due to restrictions related to Covid-19, finalization of updated Interlocal Agreement to reflect these changes is pending.)

We have two stations located in Bad Axe and Port Austin. (Third station, located in the Village of Ubly, to be established soon. This station will house 1 Basic Life Support ambulance with the capability of being upgraded to Advanced Life Support.)

Our fleet consists of 4 ambulances – 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS), 2 Basic Life Support (BLS), and 1 ECHO (paramedic) unit located in Bad Axe.

Port Austin fleet consists of 1 BLS ambulance that has the capability to be upgraded to ALS, and 1 First Responder unit located in Port Austin.

We currently have over 50 employees, which consists of EMRs, EMT-Bs, AEMTs, Paramedics, Instructors, FTOs, Education Manager, Executive Director, and Assistant Director. Central Huron Ambulance Service responds to over 2,000 calls per year on average, between the Bad Axe and Port Austin stations. Adding Paris and Bingham Townships will add an estimated 200-250 additional calls.

Central Huron Ambulance is supported by subsidies and operating revenue. Central Huron Ambulance also applies for various grants that when awarded, is used for things such as operating expenses, equipment purchases, and training. Donations are always welcomed and appreciated. They can be made by organizations, memorials, and individuals. Monetary donations are used for purchasing equipment, educational and training opportunities, and other expenses that will be utilized to improve Central Huron Ambulance Service, the crew, and the community we serve.
